The mother of all rabbit holes.

The mother of all rabbit holes.

Where to begin.

Around 1605 was a pivotal time with James I succeeding Elizable I and the completion of the north wing of the Prague caslte by Rudolf II.

There is a described tension between protestant and catholics, but these terms are not as we understand them today. It was a battle for the basis of the foundation of modern civilization as we know it.

There was also the birth of modern science, discovery of naval navigation devices, experiments with electricity that would (much) later go on inspire the steam engine, theory of the cosmos, and industrial revolution.

During this decade was a time of emperors and popes. Then came the 30 years war, the peace of Westphalia and the formation of modern nation-states. I think there's a plaque in the british museum saying that the modern system or taxation was invented during the 30 years war.

Also during the later period Descarte's materialistic (number and measure) view of science, which remains the mainstream today, prevailed over the more subtle holistic views, such as that of Bruno of Nola.

The early 1600s was the prelude to a great war competition of ideas that created the world as we know it today.
